Salt Bay, a novel idea of a food truck not on land but on sea, opened to customers near Rixos the Palm Hotel on Friday.
The floating kitchen, which owners claim as the world’s first, is an Aqua Pod that can be navigated at sea to locations based on customer demand. Salt Bay has two ordering systems: a flag system where people on boats can raise their flags to order for delivery or customers on small marine crafts can stop by and order on-site. “The kitchen is designed in a way that even though the sea is rough, everything is cool and safe. Everybody is working in a safe environment.

UAE-India ties get fresh boost as Modi arrives in Abu Dhabi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi from Palestine on Saturday evening on a two-day state visit. He was received by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
This is Modi’s second visit to the UAE and is indicative of the new momentum in the UAE-India ties and the bolstering of cooperation between the two countries in areas like tourism, defense, finance, investments, anti-terrorism, space technology, and infrastructure and skills development.

UAE launches Dh2m challenge to settle humans in space

The challenge is the first project of the newly established Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Accelerated Research.


The UAE has launched a Space Settlement Challenge; a dedicated Dh2 million seed grant fund that supports ambitious projects to explore the future of human space habitation. The challenge aims to attract brilliant minds from all around the world regardless of discipline, background or origin.
The Dh2 million funds will be used to bankroll proposals that explore novel ideas and develop new business models for living and working in space. “The challenge, registrations for which opened on Saturday, will solicit project proposals from diverse disciplines through a next-generation platform called Guaana, whose innovative model dramatically reduces the time and effort required to fund seed ideas,” said the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) in a Press statement.

Let’s face it; WhatsApp is pretty much on the verge of being able to do everything. From group calling to blocking spam messages, the extremely popular app is always on the verge of rolling out a new feature that will make life a little bit easier for its users.
Now, WhatsApp is testing out an easy payment feature so users can send and receive money securely. Several screengrabs from Gizmo Times reveal that payments made through the app will be done via UPI (Unified Payments Interface). Since the feature is still in the beta stage, it is only showing the list of banks as well as the bank account that is linked. It does not let an account get added.

Ain Dubai will be largest Ferris wheel in the world


Located in the soon to be complete Bluewater’s Island, Ain Dubai or “Dubai Eye” as it was once known will be largest Ferris wheel in the world. At 210m high it will eclipse New York’s 198m attraction, and will have the capacity to carry more than 1,400 passengers at a time within its 48 capsules.
The flight of the wheel will be an impressive 48 minutes long and will give you an ever-changing view of the city. Aside from the observation wheel, the project will feature a number of dining and retail facilities as well as a 4D cinema that will enlighten guests about city’s rich history and culture.

Deira Islands Night Souk to open by end of 2018

Deira Islands is a four-island waterfront city. More than 280,000 people are expected to eventually live there


A traditional Arabian night market, the Deira Islands Night Souk, being built on Deira Islands, will be ready to receive shoppers and tourists by end 2018. Ali Rashid Lootah, chairman of Nakheel, the developer of Deira Islands, said the souk’s all 5,300 outlets spread along 1.9 kilometers of waterfront have already been leased. The souk will also feature 96 quayside cafés and restaurants.
The Night Souk, designed as a modern interpretation of the traditional Arabic souk, is set right next to Deira Mall on Deira Islands. The mall is billed as one of largest in the world with 4.5 million square feet of gross leasable area. Deira Islands is a four-island waterfront city. All four islands will feature hotels, resorts and residential, commercial and retail units.
Attractions will include the Deira Islands Mall, hotels, an amphitheater for 30,000 people and marinas. More than 280,000 people are expected to eventually live there, and the projected number of new hotel rooms is 50,000. The night market and boardwalk will provide Deira islands with a retail destination for residents and tourists alike, Nakheel said. Infrastructure work on the island project is ahead of schedule. The project will add 40km, including 21km of beachfront, to Dubai’s coastline, and will contain hundreds of new hotels, serviced apartments and mixed-use buildings as well as extensive retail and leisure attractions.

RTA tests world’s first autonomous pods in Dubai

Each pod weighs about 1,500kg and has a capacity to accommodate 10 riders (six seated, four standing). Its average speed is 20 km/h.


The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in cooperation with Next Future Transportation, launched the first tests of the world’s first autonomous pods on the sidelines of the World Government Summit. The step is part of RTA’s efforts under Dubai Future Accelerators initiatives.
The autonomous pods are designed to travel short and medium distances in dedicated lanes. They can be coupled in 15 to 20 seconds or detached, depending on the destination of riders, in 5 seconds. The autonomous pods are fitted with cameras and electromechanical technologies to carry out the coupling and detaching processes, and this feature can be activated in-motion.
Each pod measures 2.87m in length, 2.24m in width and 2.82m in height. It weighs about 1,500kg and has a capacity to accommodate 10 riders (six seated, four standing). The autonomous pod is fitted with a battery that supports three hours of operation, and is chargeable in six hours. Its average speed is 20 km/h.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said, “The pilot test of driverless units is directed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in the context of transforming Dubai into the smartest city worldwide”.

Virtual reality theme park to open in Dubai Mall

It’s going to have immersive rides, interactive multi-player games and even a rollercoaster


Gamers get excited, there’s a brand new virtual reality attraction coming to Dubai Mall. Called VR park, the new virtual reality theme park is set to open in the first half of this year.

Combining Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and experiential attractions, VR Park is designed to be fun for all ages. Split over two floors, it will be home to immersive rides, educational journeys and interactive games, with a highlight being a new rollercoaster.
The concept of the theme park is ‘Shared Escapism’, so many of the attractions will offer a multi-player experience – allowing visitors to take on friends as they navigate the park.
VR Park has been designed to offer ‘something for everyone’, and can expect attractions appealing to all interests, across adrenalin, horror and leisure.
There is also set to be a PVRK Café where guests can relax and indulge in some virtual reality themed treats.
